My Biggest Surprises and Disappointments of the Last Gaming Generation Big Disappointment: Red Dead Redemption

Please, just shoot me.

Again, zzzzzzzzzz…

Seeing as we’re in a new year and possibly a new gaming generation, I figured now is a good time to look back on what games from the last few years really defied my expectations. Either because they went above and beyond what I was expecting of them or because they were horrible letdowns that made me feel stupid for buying them. Today’s disappointment is Red Dead Redemption, a.k.a. Grand Theft Auto: Old West Edition.

My Biggest Surprises and Disappointments of the Last Gaming Generation Big Disappointment: Portal

Meh...

This image really does capture my excitement for this series…

Seeing as we’re in a new year and possibly a new gaming generation, I figured now is a good time to look back on what games from the last few years really defied my expectations. Either because they went above and beyond what I was expecting of them or because they were horrible letdowns that made me feel stupid for buying them. Today’s disappointment is Portal, an apparent slice of gaming perfection that I found annoying and somewhat dull.

My Biggest Surprises and Disappointments of the Last Gaming Generation Big Disappointment: Bit.Trip Runner

The horror... The horror...

I’d make a joke about running off a cliff. But he already does that, like, a lot… A lot a lot…

Seeing as we’re in a new year and possibly a new gaming generation, I figured now is a good time to look back on what games from the last few years really defied my expectations. Either because they went above and beyond what I was expecting of them or because they were horrible letdowns that made me feel stupid for buying them. Today’s disappointment is Bit.Trip Runner, the fourth game in the Bit.Trip series, and the only one I didn’t enjoy.

My Biggest Surprises and Disappointments of the Last Gaming Generation Big Disappointment: Assassin’s Creed

Oh, how I envy the dead...

Spoiler: The world will end in 2012!
Other Spoiler: It’s 2013 now…

Seeing as we’re in a new year and possibly a new gaming generation, I figured now is a good time to look back on what games from the last few years really defied my expectations. Either because they went above and beyond what I was expecting of them or because they were horrible letdowns that made me feel stupid for buying them. Today’s disappointment is Assassin’s Creed, the convoluted science-fiction/medieval/fantasy/futuristic something that sucks so hard that they had to put the word “ASS” in its title, twice.

My Biggest Surprises and Disappointments of the Last Gaming Generation Big Disappointment: Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts

...kill me.

Why? Just why…

Seeing as we’re in a new year and possibly a new gaming generation, I figured now is a good time to look back on what games from the last few years really defied my expectations. Either because they went above and beyond what I was expecting of them or because they were horrible letdowns that made me feel stupid for buying them. Today’s disappointment is Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, most likely the very last Rare game I’ll ever play.

My Biggest Surprises and Disappointments of the Last Gaming Generation Big Disappointment: inFAMOUS

inPROPER CAPitaliZatIoN iS So CoOl!

I’d make a pun about this game being infamous, but that’s actually giving it way too much credit…

Seeing as we’re in a new year and possibly a new gaming generation, I figured now is a good time to look back on what games from the last few years really defied my expectations. Either because they went above and beyond what I was expecting of them or because they were horrible letdowns that made me feel stupid for buying them. Today’s disappointment is inFAMOUS, the oddly capitalized superhero/villain wide open sandbox game from Sucker Punch, which, appropriately, felt like a total sucker punch to me.

My Biggest Surprises and Disappointments of the Last Gaming Generation Big Disappointment: Oblivion

If Oblivion means dark caves and boring monsters, this game delivered in spades.

I really should have seen this coming. I mean, the title was a dead giveaway…

Seeing as we’re in a new year and possibly a new gaming generation, I figured now is a good time to look back on what games from the last few years really defied my expectations. Either because they went above and beyond what I was expecting of them or because they were horrible letdowns that made me feel stupid for buying them. Today’s disappointment is Oblivion, the lackluster follow-up to the mildly entertaining Morrowind and the forgettable predecessor to the vastly overrated Skyrim.

My Biggest Surprises and Disappointments of the Last Gaming Generation Big Disappointment: Mass Effect

You see that guy's face? In the middle. Well, that was basically the reaction I had playing this nonsense.

Anytime something gets stuck up its own ass too much, I just call that the Mass Effect in action.

Seeing as we’re in a new year and possibly a new gaming generation, I figured now is a good time to look back on what games from the last few years really defied my expectations. Either because they went above and beyond what I was expecting of them or because they were horrible letdowns that made me feel stupid for buying them. Today’s disappointment is Mass Effect, the first in Bio-Ware’s supposed epic Sci-Fi trilogy which really did nothing for me except lead me to believe that Knights of the Old Republic may have just been a fluke.

My Biggest Surprises and Disappointments of the Last Gaming Generation Big Disappointment: Dead Rising

This is how the world ends. Not with a bang, but by the moaning of a thousand undead as they lull you into a coma.

A zombie’s greatest weapon is patience. Give them enough time and they will bore you to death.

Seeing as we’re in a new year and possibly a new gaming generation, I figured now is a good time to look back on what games from the last few years really defied my expectations. Either because they went above and beyond what I was expecting of them or because they were horrible letdowns that made me feel stupid for buying them. Today’s disappointment is Dead Rising, Capcom’s incredibly dull zombie game. Despite a few good ideas Dead Rising ultimately was a chore to play and the ham-fisted social commentary just left a bad taste in my mouth.
